After several consecutive months which witnessed a drop in sales figures for the earlier generation of Innova, the Toyota Innova Crysta has successfully managed to reverse the trend by registering an overall impressive growth in its first month of launch. Launched on May 2, 2016, the Innova Crysta from the house of Toyota is the first proper upgrade that the MPV has received in over ten years of its presence in India. It seems that this move has done the great job!
According to sources in the industry, car maker Toyota has dispatched a total of 7,259 units of the Innova Crysta in May 2016, up from 5,028 units in the same month in last year. This indicates a steady 44 percent growth year on year. The sales number is even more impressive if that of May is compared with last the month. In April, just before the launch of the Crysta, Toyota managed to sell 4,269 units which indicates that the m-o-m growth is 70 percent. This has helped the Innova MPV to be declared as the most sold MPV in India again. In April, this position was captured by Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. Maruti Suzuki Ertiga’s sales have seen a drop both in terms of month-on-month as well as year-on-year. Ertiga sold 4,133 units in May 2016 as compared to 5,430 in April.
The government imposed ban on diesel vehicles above 2000 cc in Delhi and NCR and now in six cities of Kerala as well, still holds good which will continue to impact the sales of the Toyota Innova Crysta as both its engines are above 2000 cc. Toyota has recently stated that it has lost about 7 percent of annual sales due to this diesel ban. Innova witnessed its yearly sales figure fall. The MPV managed a sale of total 55,242 units in FY 2016, as compared to 62,727 units in FY 15, which shows a drop of 11.3 percent year-on-year.
There is an overall drop in the sales of multi-purpose-vehicle even in May. But Toyota is relying on the success of the Innova Crysta to get back in groove. The company experienced its sales fall 9.4 percent in the FY 2016 overall.
However, in May 2016, Toyota has registered a surprising growth of 10 percent to dispatch a total of 12,630 units as compared to 11,481 units in May 2015.
The Toyota Innova Crysta price starts from 17.2 lakhs in Delhi and goes up to 24.3 lakh, and Toyota Innova Crysta TCO is estimated to be around 14.8 lakh for a period of 5 years.
