Tata Motors Working on New X451 Hatchback

According to the latest reports by Tata Motors, the homegrown carmaker, the company is contemplating a premium hatchback, that will be based on new advanced modular platform. Codenamed Tata X451, this new car will be designed with the collaborative efforts of three of Tata’s design studios and inputs from JLR.
Price and Launch Date
Expected to be launched within the next 2 years, it is likely to be priced within a range of Rs. 5-8lakhs. As far as styling is concerned, it can have a crossover-ish design. The front end of the car will sport an aggressive look with projector headlamps, low-positioned fog lights and daytime ruarning lights or turn blinkers. Amongst other design highlights, it is expected to flaunt pronounced wheel arches, roof rails and plastic cladding around the body.
Interiors
Coming to the interiors, it will most probably be inspired by the Nexon. If industry speculations are to be believed, the material quality, fit and finish will be more premium than existing Tata cars. The hatchback might feature a multi-layered design and Indian lattic-work inspired rear AC vents and centre console design. It might borrow certain features from the Nexon like, an infotainment system with touch-screen display, a new instrument cluster and 3-spoke multifunction steering wheel.
Competitors & Engine Specs
When it comes to the engine, it will be available with both petrol and diesel options, though no specifications have been revealed yet. Reports suggest that the X451 will come with an all-new 4-cylinder petrol and diesel powertrains that will be based on either Tiago’s lighter aluminum engines or the Bolt’s cast-iron power units.
The engines will churn about 100-110bhp of power and will be offered with a six-speed manual and AMT options. The hatchback might be equipped with both manual and automatic transmission options. It will expectedly deliver a mileage of 18-20 kmpl. It will be competing with the likes of Maruti Baleno, Hyundai Elite i20 and the Honda Jazz.
It will not be just for India but even for exports to several other markets including developed countries as well. Tata Motors has floated quotations to its vendors recently, and it has plans to put the X451 into production in 2017-18, as stated by the latest reports.
It will target the urban youth and is expected to bring in 25,000-30,000 units of sales per annum. Aside from the X451, this platform will also spawn a mid-size sedan that will target the likes of Honda City, Maruti Ciaz and VW Vento
