Owing to the super success of the Kwid, French car maker Renault, has been planning to launch a compact sedan model which is based on its CMF-A platform. The CMF-A platform underpins the Renault Kwid and is all set to become the platform for a new compact sedan model from Renault, which is still being worked upon by the French auto manufacturer. Renault’s top boss Carlos Ghosn has confirmed this during a recent interactive session that was held at the 2016 New York Motor Show. He added further that Renault is going to use the CMF-A platform for other models as well in the future. The Kwid is has proved to be a great success for Renault, so much so that the company has declared that it is planning to launch a more powerful variant of the Kwid by this festive season, with special versions of the car planned for launch in the next year.
Renault has a compact sedan in the sub-four meter category, which is in works followed by a compact SUV model as well as an MPV in the pipeline which are reportedly going to be based on the same CMF-A platform. The compact sedan will aim to compete in the entry level sedan category in India. It will have rivals like the Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire and the soon to be launched Tata Kite 5 sedan. The reason behind the huge success of the CMF-A platform apart from it being a well engineered chassis is that it is absolutely localized. This has helped Renault to set pricing of the Kwid in a very competitive segment and still endow it with loads of features. A lesser demand for diesel cars will further leverage its success since currently there is no diesel car available that is built on the CMF-A platform.
The new compact sedan from Renault is expected to be driven by a 1.0 litre petrol engine that comes with 3 cylinders, which is soon going to be launched in the Kwid SCe. The engine is capable of generating a maximum of 69 bhp and will be mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox.

This Renault sub 4m sedan is likely to rely on an attractive price tag, feature list as well as a fuel efficient petrol engine to lure car buyers, this formula looks similar to the one which contributed to the huge success of Renault’s Kwid. Not only will this be one of the cheapest compact sedans in the country but the overall Renault Kwid TCO (total cost of ownership) for the compact sedan version should also be very low, prompting more customers to opt for this car when launched in the Indian market.
