Maruti Suzuki Swift is undoubtedly one of the most loved cars in India as it offers a perfect blend of features, design, performance, fuel economy and price. But the Indian customers want something more; they want automatic transmission in their beloved Swift. And 2016 will be the year when the Maruti Suzuki Swift AMT will officially see the light of the day.
Maruti Suzuki made automatic transmission a general norm by introducing it in their lower-end Celerio. Going by the statistics, the company sold over 1-lakh AMT enabled cars so far in India 50% of the sale came from the Maruti Celerio AMT.
A jump of whopping 82% was seen in the AMT cars segment in the previous fiscal year by the company. The sky high sales have forced Maruti Suzuki to setup a new plant that will be capable of manufacturing 1.2-lakh AMT units each year. Following the success of their AMT cars and technology, the company will soon add variants of most of the cars in their fleet with automatic transmission.
The Maruti Suzuki Swift AMT is the next car to get the feature. The car is expected to launch in September this year and is speculated to break all the previous sales record. Besides the Swift, the company will also launch an AMT variant of their latest compact SUV- Vitara Brezza, which is already becoming the top selling car in its segment, during the festive season of this year.
As far as engine specifications are considered, the Maruti Suzuki Swift AMT will be powered the 1.2-litre K-Series petrol and 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engines, as seen in the current variants of the car. It is yet to be seen which variant gets the automatic transmission, the petrol one or the diesel one.
Rumours suggest that the Swift diesel variant will most probably receive the automatic transmission technology. The 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine can produce 74 bhp of maximum power at 4000 rpm and produces 190 Nm of maximum torque at 2000 rpm. With all these specification, the engine manages to churn out 25.2 kmpl of mileage.
Like mentioned earlier, the car is expected to go official in September 2016 and it will be priced Rs.30,000 to Rs.45,000 more than the regular variant with manual transmission. The pricing of the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Swift AMT will be Rs.7.5 lakhs to Rs.8 lakhs (Ex-Showroom Price, New Delhi).
