Car Comparison – Skoda Superb vs Toyota Camry
Skoda has recently launched the new Superb in India, with a face lift. It faces neck to neck competition from car maker, Toyota, with the Camry. Let us see how the 2016 Skoda Superb fares with the 2015 Toyota Camry.
Car Comparison
The new Skoda Superb appears a lot more edgy than its previous version. Its overall design is very similar to the Skoda Octavia. Two of the most prominent design features of the Superb are the front grille with vertical slats and the headlamps, which are sleeker and sharper than before. The Toyota Camry has received more of a face lift than upgrades. The notable design restyling includes less chrome in the front fascia, and a restyled bumper. Although the front portion of the Camry has less chrome, Toyota has compensated it by adding more of the chrome touches towards the rear end of the car.
The 2016 Skoda Superb comes with the options of either petrol or a diesel engine. The petrol engine is a 1.8 litre, four cylinder TSI engine that generates 177 BHP of power and 320Nm of peak torque, while the diesel engine is a 2.0 litre, four cylinder unit that generates 174bhp and 350 Nm of torque. The petrol engine comes with a 6 speed manual or a 7 speed DSG gearbox, while the diesel engine comes with a 6 speed DSG gearbox only. On the other hand, the Toyota Camry is available in a petrol only model or as a Hybrid version. The petrol motor is a 2.5 litre four cylinder engine that generates 178bhp power and 233Nm of peak torque. The Camry Hybrid model is also driven by the same engine, but produces 158bhp power and 213Nm of peak torque. Both engines are coupled to a 6 speed automatic gearbox.
Talking about the features of both cars, the new Skoda Superb comes with some cool features like three zone climate control, Skoda Mirror Link system, 5 inch touch screen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, LED Daytime Running Lights and tail lights, three power outlets, cruise control and one touch window function for all four windows. The Toyota Camry comes with rear armrest with controls, power recline rear seats, power sunshade for rear windshield, three zone climate control, LED headlights, 17 inch wheels, reverse linked ORVMs with memory function and a collapsible headrest for the front passenger seat.
In terms of safety features, the 2016 Superb comes equipped with 8 airbags, ABS and EBD, hill hold control, while the Camry comes with 7 airbags, impact absorbing body, hill start assist, and vehicle stability control. Coming to pricing, Superb 2016 starts from Rs. 26 lakh while 2015 Camry starts at Rs. 34 lakh (approximate on-road prices, Delhi). The Superb has an edge over the Camry in most respects like pricing, engine, style. But the Camry has the Hybrid technology integrated, which to an environmentally conscious person, is the strongest factor.
