Karnataka Cities Get New Names
It doesn’t get bigger than this 😛
There are many thing that can be changed but our priority has changed.
GUYS YOU SHOULD HAVE DONE “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan” on daily basis instead of changing names 😛
The Union home ministry has given the green-light to a long-standing proposal of the Karnataka government to rename a dozen cities and towns in the state in consonance with their pronunciation in Kannada language.
Accordingly, the new name for the capital city for Bangalore will now be Bengaluru, while Mangalore will be renamed Mangaluru and Mysore as Mysure. The list further states that Bellary will now be called Ballari in the official records, while Belgaum will be renamed as Belagavi, Hubli as Hubballi, Tumkur as Tumakuru, Bijapur as Vijapura, Chikmagalur as Chikkamagaluru, Gulbarga as Kalaburagi, Hospet as Hosapete and Shimoga as Shivamogga.
Union home ministry officials said the state government of Karnataka, Survey of India, ministry of railways, department of posts, ministry of science and technology and Intelligence Bureau had given their no-objection or clearance for the proposal to rename the above cities/towns. Minister of state for home Kiren Rijiju too has given his approval, which will now be followed by a final clearance from home minister Rajnath Singh.
The proposal to change the names of the Bangalore and other cities was received from the Karnataka government way back in 2006, when a Congress-led government under chief minister N Dharam Singh was in power. Incidentally, though a Congress-led UPA was in power at the Centre until May this year, the file was never cleared by it. The Modi government has approved the Kannada names, less than four months after it assumed office on May 26.
