Ford EcoSport
The Ford EcoSport is the ideal SUV which would be the nearest fit for the family’s requirements in India. The EcoSport was launched a year ago by Ford and the SUV has been performing quite well since then. The sports utility vehicle has been much appreciated for the compact interiors and size. The SUV is quite roomy and offers sufficient leg room along with adequate shoulder and head space for all occupants. The car can be bought in 10 different versions and the price ranges between Rs 5.8 lakhs and Rs 9.3 lakhs. There are four diesel and six petrol versions of the vehicle which are loaded with two diesel and two petrol engine options.
Currently, the EcoSport can be bought in 3 different engine variants including the 1.5 litre Ti VCT petrol, 1L EcoBoost and the 1.5L DV5 diesel. Based on the conditions of driving, the mileage delivered by the EcoSport is between 13.07kmpl and 16.15kmpl.The interiors of the EcoSport are plush and the seating arrangement is comfortable. The seats are covered using premium quality upholstery and sufficient lumbar support has been provided for a pleasing and relaxed driving experience. The Scorpio come only a diesel version. The Scorpio price is in the range of Rs 7 to 9 lakhs. The diesel engine is a mHawk 2.2L one which offers a displacement of around 2179cc. Tata Motors has recently unveiled the “Explorer” edition of the Safari Storme and it is priced at Rs 10.86 lakhs.
The vehicle is powered by the 2.2L VariCOR engine which is turbo charged with a Variable Turbine Technology or VTT, used in the previous Storme. The power available is around 140PS while the torque is 320Nm.
The Explorer Safari Storme has been provided a 2 DIN Blaupunkt touch enabled infotainment system, floor mats, leather seat covers and car care kit. To keep the adventure spirit alive, the newer model has also been packed with a robust and new navigation device. Tata Motors has claimed that the fuel efficiency is roughly 14kmpl while the 100kmph speed can be reached from zero in less than 15 seconds.
Mahindra Bolero
The Bolero was launched in 2000 and since then has enjoyed immense popularity. Roughly 6.5 lakh units of this SUV have been sold by Mahindra. In the year 2013, the SUV sold around 1.17 lakh units while in 2012 the sales were around 1 lakh units. The growth rate has been 17 percent for the SUV and it is the only SUV manufactured by an Indian company which has crossed the 1 lakh sales unit mark in two consecutive years.
The Bolero is available in 3 trims (ZLX, SLX and SLE) and a single engine option- the diesel 2.5L one which produces power of 63 bhp and torque of 19.8kgm. The power is transmitted to the wheels via a 5 speed MT gearbox.
